As with its sister pub, the multi award-winning Red Lion Inn at Hinxton, food at the Black Bull is all about making the most of the great choice of local suppliers and reflecting the changing seasons. The result is rustic gastropub dining at its very best.
The Black Bull achieved AA rosette status for its food in our first year (2011) and have retained this award each year since, to match The Red Lion, where we have been awarded an AA rosette for a long number of years now.
We have a Classic Pub and lunchtime sandwich menu for regular favourites, as well as a frequently changing A La Carte menu and our daily Specials Board, which changes according to the fish brought in that day. All menus are available throughout the pub and we encourage guests to eat or drink where they feel most comfortable – bar, restaurant or outside patio/lawn areas.
Please find current menus below. If you’d like to be kept abreast of new menus or special events, please sign up here. We do have a children’s menu, however we can also offer most of our dishes in any size or adaptation requested. It is a diverse menu that satisfies most tastes. We also have a significant number of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.
We do not have a dogs’ menu, but they are welcome in the bar restaurant and garden, and we are fortunate to have a great local water supplier.
Parties of 5 or less can now book a table in our restaurant online – click on the link on the right sidebar to begin. Otherwise please call, email or complete our form for reservation enquiries.
We have regular Special Events, such as Beer Festivals, Wine Dinners and Pudding Club nights – see News/What’s On page for up coming dates.
The Black Bull won a national award for a Pie Board in 2013. We have kept the highlights of this success on the current menus in the form of the favourite Black Bull Pie, along with some rotating “Guest Pies”. We are now offering our pies in a Mini Pie version, so that guests can choose how many they want as well as which filling, according to taste and appetite.
Alongside our own Red & Black Ale we have a great selection of craft beer. Most frequent favourites are Woodforde’s Wherry and Adnams Bitter. Other regulars include beers from such local breweries as Crafty Beers, Brandon Brewery and Nethergate.
