The Balsham bar is a very relaxed space “in the round” with a number of different tucked-away areas surrounding the central bar. Think open fires, leather sofas, beams galore, wooden floorboards and lattice stained-glass windows. There is a more informal dining area in the bar as an alternative to the barn restaurant.
We strive to offer you a true taste of the region, with both our food and our drinks. There are always four local real ales on the hand pumps. One is a semi-permanent fixtures – our own ale, Red & Black, brewed for us by local brewer Nethergate, with the other pumps rotating between regional brewers (Woodforde’s Wherry (Norfolk), Adnams Bitter (Suffolk), Greene King (Suffolk) and smaller local micro breweries, such as City of Cambridge Hobson’s Choice, Crafty Beers Sauvignon Blonde and Brandon Rusty Bucket.
We have over 40 wines on offer, supplied by Cambridge Wines and Matthew Clark. It’s a pretty comprehensive list, covering the noted regions and containing a few lesser known gems, accommodating most pockets and palates. At any one time 12 of these wines are available by the glass.
Alongside our own Red & Black Ale we have a great selection of craft beer. Most frequent favourites are Woodforde’s Wherry and Adnams Bitter. Other regulars include beers from such local breweries as Crafty Beers, Brandon Brewery and Nethergate.
